The Most Common Toxicities & What
to do about them
By James Jordan, J.D., C.N.C.
The following was excerpted from the Create Vibrant Health E-mail
Newsletter #4, written by James Jordan, J.D., C.N.C. He is a former
attorney who now works as a certified nutritional consultant specializing
in individualized nutrition and wellness programs to meet your
health and wellness goals.
The Most Common Toxicities & What
to do about them
Every client I see has some health challenge or at least a
goal of maintaining good health. I explain over and over that
the only way to meet one's goal is to understand what are the
causes of illness and what are the causes of health. In this
sense these causes are mirror opposites of each other. For years
I have been talking about the underlying causes of illness being:
- Toxins
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Emotional trauma and stress
I could just as easily say that the causes of health are:
- Avoidance and detoxification of toxins.
- Eating a diet of foods that have all the nutrients one needs
that are easily absorbed and digested.
- Releasing stress and emotional trauma.
This is the game in a nutshell. The first thing to realize is
that success is relative. No one can avoid and detoxify all toxins,
eat the perfect diet that has all the nutrients and release all
the trauma and stress in one's life. So there is no pressure to
be 100% perfect on your program.
Most toxins fall into one of three categories: chemicals, heavy
metals and radiation.
Chemicals: are everywhere in modern society so let's start
with these few tips:
Eat as much of your food organically grown as possible. Herbicides
and pesticides accumulate over time and disrupt the endocrine
system and suppress the immune system. All cells and tissue become
toxic and lose their ability to function properly causing degeneration
of vital organs and systems. This includes eating meat, poultry
and dairy that is organic and raised without the use of hormones
and antibiotics.
Reduce unnecessary pharmaceutical drugs to only those you absolutely
must use to function. Both prescription and over-the-counter
drugs have toxic side effects and weaken the body. The bottom
line is that they are toxic chemicals and should only be used
as a last resort. If you want to find natural alternatives for
the drugs you are using check with a physician or practitioner
who has knowledge and experience working with herbs, nutrition
and other natural non-toxic options. Also research on your own.
An excellent resource is the book, Prescription for Nutritional
Healing, by Dr. James Balch, M.D. Prescription drugs can cause
dependency and you would be wise to consult with a physician who
is well informed in how to wean his/her patients off medications.
Use Botanically-based beauty care and cleaning products.
The toxic chemicals people put on their faces, hair and body and
those they inhale when cleaning their homes, dishes and clothing
accumulate and contribute to nervous system and immune system
disorders generating unnecessary suffering and pain. For a fantastic
read and abundance of environmentally and human healthy products
and resources read, Living Healthy in a Toxic World, by Steinman
and Wisner.
Heavy Metals: here are the top tips to reduce and detoxify
heavy metals:
To reduce mercury accumulation in the body select fish that
is wild-caught from clean ocean waters: either Alaskan or
Icelandic. Reduce the consumption of cooked fish overall. Instead
either use fish oil supplements that are filtered for heavy metals
and other toxins or eat raw fish which has a much less toxic effect.
When fish is cooked the mercury in it is converted to methyl mercury
and is much more toxic than when eaten in raw fish.
If you have dental amalgams in your teeth, have a holistic
dentist remove them and replace them with non-toxic materials
(the best I know of is bell-glass) in a safe and affordable manner.
Mercury, nickel and other toxic metals are used in dental fillings,
crowns and bridges and can contribute to health problems ranging
from chronic fatigue, chronic gastrointestinal disturbances, yeast
and candida overgrowth, immune system dysfunction to severe diseases
like Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid arthritis.
Aluminum toxicity can build up with the use of anti-perspirants,
antacids and consuming products in aluminum cans like canned soda
pop or foods cooked or wrapper in aluminum foil. Aluminum
toxicity has been linked to neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s
and Parkinson’s disease. The solution is to stop consuming these
products and seek out healthy alternatives.
Heavy metal detoxification can be accelerated and made more efficient
by using certain foods and supplements:
- Juicing vegetables and adding cilantro and garlic
help with metal detoxification.
- The fats found in fresh, raw coconut or coconut oil
bind with metals and facilitates cleansing them from the body.
- The seaweed chlorella has many studies supporting
its efficacy in detoxification of heavy metals.
- Eating fresh, raw fish stimulates the release of
stored methyl mercury in the tissues of the body.
- Supplements such as alpha lipoic acid, N-acyetyl cysteine
and milk thistle are supportive of liver function and
are very helpful when detoxifying heavy metals.
Radiation toxicity: Most people are not aware that many
of us are bathed in an invisible sea of electromagnetic field
radiation emanating from many of our modern convenience devices.
Top among these are:
- a. Cell phones. It is best to keep cell phone usage
to a minimal and to use a high quality headset. I know of
a man who after several years of using his cell phone for
hours a day developed a brain tumor on the side of his head
which he held his cell phone.
- b. Computer monitors. Numerous studies have shown
that high exposure times to computer monitors increase health
problems and risks of leukemia. For more details on these
studies and for products to shield computers go to www.safelevel.com
When I worked in a holistic health clinic I checked each computer
in the office for ELF levels with a gauss meter. Each CRT
(big monitors) registered very high levels within 3 feet of
the screen. Each flat screen measured very low levels.
One employee of the practice came to see me for a live blood
test. She spent up to eight hours in front of a CRT per day
and had high levels of geomorphic shaped Red blood cells which
indicated radiation damage. She promptly switched to a shielded
flat screen and returned to retest her blood in three months.
The levels of geomorphic cells dropped to virtually undetectable
levels. More importantly she felt more energy and less eye
strain.
- c. High power lines: Yes, they are connected to many
chronic health problems and even cancers. For more information
pick up a copy of "Currents of Death ---- Power lines, computer
terminals, and the Attempt to cover up Their threat to Your
Health" by Paul Brodeur (published by Simon and Schuster).
The book links Electromagnetic field radiation to headaches,
cataracts, heart problems, stress, fatigue, insomnia, nausea
and Leukemia.
