NUTRITIONAL INSTITUTE™ natural rubber forms the central core that is the support
system in our NUTRITIONAL INSTITUTE™ mattresses. This core is inherently
anti-microbial (mildew, molds and bacteria simply cannot live
in natural rubber) and resistant to dust mites.
The unique resilience of natural rubber makes it an ideal choice
for achieving superior comfort and rest for two people of differing
weights. The soft, organic cotton cover is quilted with
organic batting and a layer of pure wool.

Why Natural Rubber?
Natural rubber is a superb choice for a mattress because of its combined
qualities of flexibility and stability. Plus, the absorbency and resilience of
natural rubber provide excellent heat and moisture regulation, coupled with
efficient air circulation. Natural rubber is also antibacterial, hypoallergenic,
and mold- and dust-free, creating an allergy-free bedding experience.
NUTRITIONAL INSTITUTE™ uses only the finest ‘grade A’ natural rubber that is
harvested by tapping the milk (sap) of Hevea brasiliensis (the common rubber
tree). The trees grow in North Malaysian plantations especially selected for
their high-quality product. No herbicides are used in these operations
because sheep graze the plantations and control growth.
NUTRITIONAL INSTITUTE™ also arranges for the Hevea milk to be processed close to the plantations
because the raw product destabilizes when kept too long. Other manufacturers
avoid the problem by adding chemicals, but the rubber milk used in our NUTRITIONAL INSTITUTE™
mattresses is harvested in the morning, molded into sheets by
mid-afternoon and is shipped shortly after to a Canadian mattress plant. By
having the rubber manufactured where the trees’ milk is harvested, we also
help to sustain the local economy. Jobs are created without depleting the
natural resources of the country.
Natural Methods Only
An injection system called the Dunlop Method produces the purest natural product
for mattress cores that will keep their shape. Only air, natural soap and
natural vulcanization agents are used. At the end of the mattress life cycle,
the rubber breaks down because it is a natural, biodegradable substance.

that is a natural dust-mite repellent. The rubber also exhibits:

The NUTRITIONAL INSTITUTE™ Slat Foundation provides perfect support and unmatched comfort
for the NUTRITIONAL INSTITUTE™ natural rubber mattress. Non-flexible wood
slats are covered in a heavy-duty, organic cotton fabric. There’s a
2-inch gap between slats to allow for ample air circulation.
